Speed up Firefox with free SpeedyFox

Friends, a large number of people are using Firefox and pretty much satisfied with the speed which they get while using it. Well, I am not saying it gives you lightning fast speed despite of slow connection :) . But, I personally felt that Firefox gives better browsing experience  in terms of speed as compared to other browsers.

Now coming to the current post, let me tell you that in this post I am writing about a tool that will increase the startup speed of Firefox and not the browsing speed. I personally feel that Firefox is slower that Google’s Chrome browser when it comes to time taken in starting up.Specially with the passage of time. The reason is fragmentation of profile databases. So, what are you waiting for. continue reading to make your Firefox run faster.

Fast Firefox

A couple of days ago I came to know about a tool called SpeedyFox which claimed to boost the performance of Firefox. I installed SpeedyFox and optimized Firefox with it. It took approximately 10 seconds for the utility to optimize Firefox’s settings. Afterwards, I started Firefox and was surprised to see a clear noticeable difference in the speed of the browser. I was quite impressed.

Below is a screen show of the utility.

SpeedyFox is a very small utility(0.3MB) and supports Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7. It is a standalone application which doesn’t require any installation. The latest version is 1.4. SpeedyFox or Mac is also coming soon.

Below are some of the features :

1) Boost Firefox startup in up to 3 times!

2) Speed-up browsing history

3) Quicker operation with cookies

Now coming on what it does to speed up Firefox, below is an explanation.

“Firefox (and sometimes it’s add-ons) uses SQLITE databases to store lots of its settings. By the time the databases grow and Firefox starts working slowly. SpeedyFox compacts those databases without loosing any data. Databases are optimized to operate faster and are decreased in size”

How to use SpeedyFox :

Well, you can use SpeedyFox with your eyes close. Just remember to point the mouse pointer on ‘Speed Up My Firefox’ button before closing your eyes :) . So, just click on the button and the optimization process will start. The optimization process can take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour depending on how large your databases are. It took about 10 seconds for me. I think for a home user it shouldn’t take much time. The whole optimization process is safe as it does not effect your history, bookmarks, passwords, etc.
