Dispaly What information a Website Tracks via Free TrackerWatcher
Friends, all of us surf internet everyday. Open various website and find the content which we are interested in. But, a number of us are not aware of the fact that as we browse the Web, information about us are being gathered based the activities there, such as race, religion, sexual preferences etc. The collected information can then be used to create visitor statistics, for example.
Now, many of us want to know about the trackers and what information is being collected. Well, here comes TrackerWatcher into play. This is a Add-on fro Firefox. Once you install this add-on, it’ll provide you the following information when you surf a website :
1) Whether you are anonymous or not.
2) Whether the site shares information with others
3) Whether the site gathers sensitive information about you such as race, religion, sexual preferences.
4) Whether the site retains your personal information, and if so, for how long.
You can install TrackerWatcher from here. This link will take you to Mozilla’s addon page where you need to click on ‘Add to Firefox’ button for installing TrackerWatcher. Once installed, a small eye icon will appeare on the toolbar of Firefox as shown below :
If the icon doesn’t appear or dissappear after an upgrade then ‘Right click on Tolbar’->’Customize’ as shown below and then drag and drop TrackerWatcher icon on the toolbar.
How to Use :
Well, it is just a matter of clicking on the ‘eye’ icon when you open a website. The tracking information will be displayed in a seperate tab. Below is an example of the information displayed for gmail.
Take care that if you run trackerwatcher with multiple tabs open, other tabs with dynamic pages may make output inaccurate. For more information about ‘Anonymity’, ‘Sharing’,’ Out-of-Bound’, ‘Deletion’, just move mouse pointer on the respective icons and the text under the icons.
